Well its finally happened, I finally bought a tank for my grow out tank, its a 4x18x24 10mm glass, i gave up on the sump tank idea, and bought a 2200 Lt Aqua one cannister filter instead.
I then took the filter wool out of the canister filter on my 5 footer and added it to the new canister filter on the grow out tank.
I then drained as much water as i dare from my 5 and 3 foot tanks and added it to the new 4 footer to help the cycling process along, then i topped it up with fresh water and declorinator, added a 1/2 dozen sacrificial guppies and am now waiting for the process to complete.
I hope to be able to add my Julidochromis Transcriptus and Neolamprologus Brichardi fry in the next 2 weeks and grow them out to a sellable size.
I hope i have done everything right!
time will tell
Dazz

A man who speaks my own language, I absolutely love dwarf tang's, some of the most rewarding fish I have ever kept :D

Fantastic stuff! Might have to get a couple off you when they are grown. :)

I've always wondered whether mixing water from two different "cultured" tanks would work.
I'd always though that the bacteria would be slightly different from each tank and eventually crash the bio build up in the tank.
I've always been scared to try.
But I haven't set up a new tank in a while.

heres a few pics of the tank,
having a bit of trouble raising the KH and Ph to the desired levels still, added KH up as per directions on the container, 1 teaspoon per 20 lt and some shell to the tank , will give it a few days and recheck, no changes in 24 hrs.
Ended up building it into a the built in wardrobe in my office at home, benefits of being a cabinet maker!

Like I was saying mate, you might need to try a phosphate buffer if you're having that much trouble with the old bicarb. I use the Seachem stuff routinely mate, it's about the only product that I actually trust :p
