i posted about the fx5 for my new 5x2x2 recently and it got my thinking is this the right choice as ive heard they can have problems. anyway i came across the Eheim Professional 2 - 2028 which is around the same price. what do you guys reckon the eheim or fluval? the fluval does have a higher turnover rate although eheim's are said to be extremly effective and reliable. Also if u have any other ideas on filters please tell.
Thanks Dave.

i have 4 fluvals, (3 old school 404's and 1 brand new 404) the old ones are awesome, the new one has been problems since day one, but thats not to say i just didnt get unlucky and get a shitty one, about the only always annoying thing with fluvals is you always have to replace the lid seals everytime you open them, no matter how new the seal is.... or atleast thats what happens to me

The FX5's are pretty much a completely different thing to the Fluval 4 range, so I wouldn't be comparing them in that respect. I deal with both filters on a regular basis, and both have their advantages depending on what you're looking for. For sheer volume turnover, you can't go past the FX5, and this would be a good choice if you plan on having a large tank only running one canister, where your fish aren't too messy. The auto-purge is cool in theory, but can freak you out if you don't know what to expect, or are the type of person who fills their tank while the canister is running (can cause an overflow).
The Eheim on the other hand, is awesome for filtering the recommended volume much more comprehensively. As I've said before, the ProII Thermofilters are the best filters I've ever used. So in other words: Eheim for efficiency, Fluval for pure volume.

Thanks Woodsy. I'm not sure if u noticed but the eheim pro II 2028 has a much smaller volume and turnover compared to the Fx5, its only rated to 600 liters and its more than the Fx5...

I know that mate, that's why I said go the FX5 if you only want to run one canister :)
