Hi guys, well unfortunately i had to give away my big goldfish, he was starting to bully my other goldfish and causing all sorts of hassles-so hes gone to boronia aquarium and thats the sad part of my post. the good bit is now i have a heater in my tank (my tank was getting down to 14 degrees) and have now got a hidey hole for my catfish who i think greatly appreciates it. so now my tank mainly holds different types of danio fish, will most likely be getting new fish soon! enjoy the pics guys

hey guys,

got myself 8 new fish today! yay! i thougth since i already have a massive variety of danios (long-finned leopard danios, pearl danios, bitterling pearl danio etc.) that i might get some tetras! i now have four bloodfin tetras and four glass bloodfin tetras! the glass tetras are awesome, they are completely see through and their insides look like this mercury colour! tried for photos but it was hopeless.

First you start with one boy fish and one girl fish,a bottle of wine and flowers

Seriously though, a small 18" tank with a sponge filter on super low and with a heater.
Possibly bare bottom no gravel(not important)and floating plants as a suggestion.
Prior to introducing both fish to the tank I'd suggest getting them in prime condition with live food.
Once your satisfied about tank and fish conditions I'd add the male first,he will soon make his little bubble nest.Once he has this complete introduce the female to the tank
He'll be frisky, soon the female will join him under the nest,it is here that they'll embrace and make LURRVE!!
Of your lucky enough to witness this you'll see the whole courtship thing.
They will go through this embrace quite a number of times till the female is exausted of all eggs. The male will pick up all the dropped eggs and place them into the bubble nest.
By this time the female is now quite battered and should be removed for her own saftey.
The male will now tend the eggs until hatched.

Then..............stay tuned :)

(sorry guys back to my tank hehe  )

FINALLY, i have now found out all of the different types of fish i have in my tank thanks to http://www.danios.info/home.asp. it has been bugging me for ages because alot of my fish are given to me and their previous owners have forgotten what they were or never knew. so now i can proudly say that in my tropical tank i have:

1x leopard danio
1x long finned leopard danio
3x pearl danio
4x rummy nose tetra (newest)
5x red-eyed tetras (newest)
4x glass bloodfin tetra (new)
4x bloodfin tetra (new)
3x burma danio
1x sucking catfish
1x red ramshorn snail
5x rosy danio (i think that one is a male because in this particular species the male looks quite different to the females as is the case in my tank)

wow, i feel so much better

Yep i do mean live plants but i mean fully planted out![/b]

hey sloory,

you'd be happy to know i have more plants in my tank now...i added 4 banana lillies, 2 hairgrass and also i have two plants up the back that i am unsure of their name  , a name was suggested to me on the forum -

"possibly Alternanthera reineckii, given the slight reddish colouring. In good to strong lighting Alternathera could go redder."

-by peter (go-guppy).

however i still havent gone all out and got myself soil and all.... i fiddle way too much with my tank, its no good!!!

any other plants you could recommend?

Hey guys, thought it was time to post up an update on the tank!

As of now i have 5 red-eyed tetras, 4 rummy nose tetras, 3 burma danios, a golden catfish, 5 clown loaches, 4 (baby) bristlenose (cheers wombat) and 2 blue rams (which i was assured would breed pretty soon) - and of course my beloved glass shrimp (countless!) haha! also of late i have added a new betta too my dual tank, i fell in love with his colour  he is the peachy one! enjoy the pics fokes- sorry the pictures of one of my rams is a little blurry, couldnt figure that one out  (shrugs)

-also for those of you who may have a faint memory of my tank, all those fish i had havent died, they have just been passed on to another tank (thanks Wombat, assisting me in my dreams to own blue rams hahahaha)

Lookin' good SB!!

I haven't had as much luck with my glass shrimp.. :( .. after a couple of weeks I didn't see them any more (maybe they're not quick enough for the rainbows??) but I was hoping, after reading some of the posts on the forum that I may discover some survivors when I changed tanks, either after removing the plants, in my canister filter, or just lurking around in a dark corner..unforetunately, no such luck!

Cheers

@ joz, i think swrod would go nicely haha

@ GG, wombat was having the same problem, maybe you need another pair of eyes to look for them, unless whats in your tanks has eaten them, what sort of fish, guppys and rams arent they?

GoGuppy
18th October 2007, 01:16 PM
Yep, you're not wrong there SB not the best pair of eyes. But I'm pretty sure there were none left.....I think.

I reckon it was the rainbows that finished off the little critters.

Has anybody else managed to keep glass shrimp in the same tank with rainbows?

I may give them (glass shrimp that is) another go, once the plants have thickened up in my tank to give them more hiding places.

Cheers

good idea i reckon! if you get a big enough batch, surely some would survive! good luck with that!

Hey GG, I purchased 50 of them from livefish, and then split some off for Sharky bubba, I thought they all disappeared, but they soon returned form the depths of my planted tank! and as i said if it wasn't for Sharky i wouldn't even know i had babies, maybe i need glasses,i am getting older now!
I was going to put them in my rainbow tank but wanted to try them in my guppy tank first for fear of them being a midnight snack for the rainbows!
