Hey guys,
finally upgraded my tank, second hand and a little run down but it will do the job for now and is a whole lot bigger than what i had (pictures soon!).
just a little query, i have off white walls and they taint the colour of my wall making it look yellow which gives me the sh*ts so was wondering if anyone had any great ideas for background as i really dont want to shell out for the stuff you get at the aquariums....someone suggested cutting up a black rubbish bag...any other suggestions?

Paint the back of the tank(outside) in the color of your choice.

also large peices of paper work in the colour of your choice work however they will need to be replaced or even a plain blue sheet if you dont mind it looking a bit tacky

coloured contact from the newsagency works a treat

What about getting some magazines and cutting the pictures out. Then stick them onto a couple sheets of clear contact (back and front). Then using vaseline smear it onto ur mural then stick it onto ur tank. Helpful tip: Use a ruler to remove the air bubbles.

I've seen some awesome stuff done with spray paint - marble effects and whatnot :)

That was quick Kat!
It's been a long time since I've seen someone do a tank out of large stones only - kind of grows on you doesn't it? Good to see you've chosen the right plants for the situation with the Microsorium, those Crypts might struggle unless you pot them up though...
Nice work :)

I have a 1/2 inch length of clear hose with a straightened out coat hanger attached to it with cable ties to hold it in the shape i want(straight with a bend in the top) that i spot clean with.
thumb over the end while i aim, then when i take my thumb off the end of the hose it sucks up the water and waste I'm aiming at . no siphoning at all that way.
hope that makes sense!!!

Not sure how this would work but read on..
If you put an under gravel filter in first covering the whloe bottom of the tank, with your cannister filter attached the to under gravel uplift.
Now maybe you could place the larger rocks on top of this, now hopefully all the debris would go straight through to the undergravel then onto the cannister.
You may need two uplifts on the U/G with two attached cannisters..
Food for thought..
