I had a mate come over yesterday and i gave him some plants out of my planted tropical tank, nothing really special , just some wisteria , java fern and stinking bloody duck weed!
will they survive in his cold water tank? or do they need warm water ?

I'm sure that the duck week will survive (we have it in our pond outside) and I think that i have read about wisteria growing in cold water... But I can't help you on the java fern I'm sorry!
I hope that someone else with personal experience can give you a hand :)

please let us know if the plants so survive.
i do agree though, the duckweed would almost definitely survive.
I've heard that it takes a bit for duckweed and other floating plants to grow though.
suspended iron and minerals at the water's surface or something like that.

They should be fine providing he doesn't plunge them into ice-cold water. Even then he'll probably just lose a few leaves due to shock. Planting the java rather than grafting it is more likely to kill it...

yeah i told him not to plant it in the substrate, lets see if he listens!
