hey guys
i got a new (secondhand) 4 foot tank today it came with some goldfish and white clouds and all other accesories and as i had no room in my house i have set it up outside and just wanted suggestions of any cold water fish that would survive outside other than the goldies.
also i will hook up a heater in winter if it gets really cold.
cheers

what about some natives? a cod or some bass, i used to have trout at one stage , they were good to watch, redfin etc but if u are going to heat it it shouldn't matter what you keep, you will find it will grow lots of algae though being outdoors in the natural light , maybe some chinese algae eaters or breed up some bristlenose cats

Over winter you'd loose so much heat that it just wouldn't be economical.
Outside stick to coldy's over winter,in summer you could try your luck as the temp won't drop so far.
But the problem is the super hot days for smaller water volumes where they fluctuate wildly.

sry to hijack this thread but i also have a 4ft tank in my shed and noticed that the temp fluctuates a lot on hot days. wat natives would be ok in this sort of tank i think it got up to 26 degree the other day. and about 14 degree on a cool day. i thought natives would be good but the temp fluctuations was wat was worring me, currently it doesnt have ne fish in it but is set up ready for some.

i was going to stick to cold water fish and was only going to heat it in winter to keep it around 18 so the fish dont get too cold. i was not going to make it hot enough for tropicals or anything like that.
but if id lose alot of heat i think ill just leave it
still open to suggestions on fish looking for things that will not out grow that tank
cheers
