hello People,
at the moment i have a 4 tropical tank and a 3 foot tropical breeding tank.
in the next few days i will be picking up my next tank which is a 4footer..
i want to keep a Murray Cod in it, a few questions i have is can i keep this fish in this size tank for good?as the wife wont let me get a 4th tank if it gets too big and where is the best place to get a young cod in the western suburbs, melbourne?
thanks

well murray cod grow pretty big as u probably know, and a 4ft tank wont be big enough in the long run it will probably last in there for about 2yrs if the water is unheated and u dont feed him too much etc.
in my experience the best place to get a cod would be to just ask at ur local fish shop and see if they can get one in for you, most of them will do this for you.
if u told me ur suburb i might be able to tell you a good one?

murray cod grow fast and hit hard on anything thats in the water.
in a specimen tank it would do fine for two years.
i've got my 50cm murray cod in a 4x2x2 and hes lovin it.
i'll have to upgrade in a year or so though.
they hit the 30cm mark within a year depending on conditions, food etc.

I realise this is an old thread but for the benefit of anyone else that reads this there is just no way you should ever try to keep a Murray Cod in a 4ft tank as a permanant home. I wouldn't even consider putting one in my 6x2x2ft. Not for one second.
This is a pic of one at about half of the size that they can achiev. This particular one is about 40kgs at my best guess & I know of people that have caught them way bigger than this.
I'm sure you can see why I feel strongly that this isn't really a fish suited to anything but the very largest of aquariums. It is after all, one of the largest freshwater fish in the world.

wild specimens grow to enormous sizes.
but aquarium specimens tend to top out at max 60 cm weighing no more than about 5 or 6 kilos.
