as for water paramiters i am not 100% sure, but i have a couple of aus bass in my 4ft tank with other natives and they are cold water fish ie. room temp but can be heated if wanted , and about pH nutral or there abouts.
they are both aggressive/ semi agressive species and will eat or attack smaller fish when they get larger, i would say that the barra would be more aggressive than the bass though.

the bass tend to be a lot more agressive, they're also more mobile around the tank so they can have a couple of nips at slower tank mates.
barras are ambush predators by nature, so they tend to stay in one spot, just floating around. but they can have a pretty bad temperament with smaller fish.
most natives dont show much agression until the hit a good three or four inches,
bar most of your grunters and perch.
As for water parameters, natives do much better in harder water.
around 12ppm. I keep at natives at a Ph of 7.5 and hardness at 12.
Of course ammonia, nitrites and nitrates are bad for them, although they seem to be fairly hardy when it comes to toxins.
hope this helps!

bass are far more territorial than barra, where as barra only seem to become aggressive towards other fish that can fit in there mouth. barra are generally a very placid fish but are naturally and instinctively very violent when feeding on live prey. A very good pet, if you have a big enough tank for its anoumus growth, and keep in mind they can eat fish even half there size. bass are extremely fast and can catch pretty much any other fish so because of these advantages they become very big for there boots. but having sed that they don't seem to cause to much trouble with the rest of the fish because they arnt really that agressive.

true, but barras tend to be victims of anything thats big enough for them NOT to eat.
