Hello All,
quick question about light holders, i have a normal duel light holder from a school class room i want to use for my 4 foot tank, can i put a plant growing globe in it will it work ok?

Yes!
they all take the same tube fittings.
But having a reflector would help,that is if it hasn't got one??
Also make sure you have a good fert for the plants..

Can you suggest "good fert" brands/types for tropical cichlids?

I'm in the same boat - just starting with the ferts. I think the Seachem line is one of the big name brands (and the price reflects this). I bought some "Flourish Excel" to try and keep some black brush algae under control, and see how it helps the plants. I also have some basic trace element "Plant Grow" stuff I got at the LFS.
I think I have a macro nutrient deficiency - probably Potassium. I might try the Seachem NPK individual bottles.
