I moved my maingano to a larger tank.
Only set up a few hours ago, so please excuse cloudiness.
4ft ~ Maingano & BN (4-5 electric yellows to be added once tank settles)

The only plant used is Java fern. Substrate is shell grit/sand mix.

That's better! LoL
That's a great looking set up and you've given me couple of ideas that I'd like to incorporate in my Malawi tank. I have a couple of Mainganos and they are great looking fish.

Thanx wombat :)
Update:
The piece of wood is finally settling down with releasing tannins. Only slight tinge now, so shouldn't be long before it stops altogether.
I've finally got around to putting a black background on the tank, i think it looks far better.

did you buy that piece of wood or find it? I would have thought if it was bought it wouldn't release tannins?

I reckon even the ones that are pre-soaked tend to emit some tannins. But the fish don't seem to care :)

I found this piece of wood, it is not new to a fish tank though. I had it in my 5ft for a year (definately stopped leaching tannins). The problem i find is when you take the piece out and let it fully dry out (its been out for 1 yr), it seems to leach until its completely waterlogged again. I have 2 more pieces that have done the same thing. They eventually settle again.
Even the bought pieces i've got leach tannin, goes away eventually and causes no harm really

How big do maingano grow to? what is the minimum tank size? Are they aggressive towards other species and/or to their own kind? Would make for a good display.
