I've been told that female paradise fish aren't brought into Australia. Can anyone confirm this? If so, would paradise fish cross with anything else?
If it isn't correct, does anyone know where I can get a few of them please?

If I remember it was about 20 years ago when they banned the importing of Female Paradise Fish. After that I don't think there were too many people who kept and continued to breed them. I was after at least a Pair a year ago and bought 6 young ones form my LFS and put them out in my pond, somehow did get at least 1 female because I found a Bubblenest between the rock edging and soon fry. I've seen one of the Fry at 20mm but expect the others are just hiding.
At this stage I need a few more years of Breeding before I'll have any for sale but eventually I hope to. Not sure if they would cross with anything else.

If it's true about the female paradise fish I'd suggest keep up the good work with them Ken.
Also what state are you in?
Just wondering about the temp of the pond over winter?

Well Ken, If/when you do sell, I'm very interested in taking a few females :)

I used to breed them and Rosy Barbs back in the late 80's and remember being told by the LFS that they couldn't buy any females of either because of the bans.
Being in Brisbane I guess my Pond got down to under 10C ...
Here are a few photos of one of the Males taking a liking to my "Upside Down Aquarium" I feed the fish both mornings and nights so the Pond lights make this possible and the fish are more lively at nights too.
