Hi ppls,
I unfortunately lost my Labeotropheus Fuelleborni last night, :(
he was his usual self and showed no signs of being at all stressed or injured or sick but when i got home last night he was head down and tail up on a rock, he was a little pale i think but thats all , he moved around the tank very little, resting in the same position, head to the bottom and tail pointing to the surface, until about 30 min later he went berserk and thrashed around the tank for about 3 seconds and knocked himself out i guess, he then had a piece of weed , fine stringy looking weed hanging out of his mouth.
He was still alive but not well so I held him under the filter outlet to get some water flow over his gills for about 5 min but to no avail . (works for cod in the rivers so i thought it was worth a try!)
I was just after some opinions on what the cause might have been?
All water parameters were good, all other fish seem fine, in-fact I guess they will be happy the big bully is gone now!
Do you think he might have choked on the weed?
Any opinions would be appreciated as i want to get more fish for the tank but want to make sure there is no problems in there before i get them.

Just a guess here, but aren't Tropheus species totally vegan??
Maybe if they are, it ingested some protein??

Just a wild guess?? :(

I have fed them the same food for 12 months at least, and all the other fish in the tank still seem good

This may be a dumb question, but do fish get cancer  ??

You may not have seen something like that till it was too late?

Cancer hey,
I have never thought of fish like that but I guess it's a possibility, I was given this fish by a mate some time ago and think he would have been about 4 years old? I'm not too sure though, does anybody know the life expectancy of cichlids?
