Those are snail shells used by neolamprologus brevis for breeding/hiding sites. I got the snail shells from snails I kept from the past or from friends.

Nice tank Dan! What are the inhabitants in your tank now and what is the water chemistry? Nice rockwork and plants aswell.

thanks, the current inhabitants of the tank are:
4x Neolamprologus Brevis
1x Julidochromis Dickfeldi
1x Neolamprologus Leleupi
2x Lamprologus Brichardi
Some of the fish in the picture are actually not in this list as the tank seemed a bit crowded when they reached adult size and I had to move them to another. the fish I have in this tank now are mostly sub-adults with the largest, the Brichardis at approx 7cm.
