Hey,
Just wondering if anyone could give me some advice on making my cod tank look better? At the moment its just got substrate and a few rocks. I wanted to get some plants for it but when i went to get some the guy at shop said the cod will destroy them. Is this true?? Im not really after a natural looking tank because i have white substrate ( i used to have africans cichlids in the tank) and dont really want to change it. After seeing other members tank photos all nicely planted with colourful fish mine looks very dull :( . Any ideas?
Heres a pic of it now.
Thanks
Sloory

My cod tanks are pretty bare, bit of gravel and some nice wood/snags for them to call home. Cod love being next to or under something alot of the time.
Once your cod gets up over 30cm he will happily bulldoze everything around to the way he wants it. One of my fish has a regular re-decoration of his tank every few weeks,,, its very funny :) a real little homemaker/interior designer that one!!!! lol
Plants will be quickly uprooted as i have learnt in the past with Murray Cod.
So all id recommend for your Cod tank is some nice driftwood.
Cheers
Jules

Thanks for the info guys,
Wow Sloory that tank looks really good!
I think i will try a coulple of plants and see how they go. I would really like one big piece of driftwood but the top of the tank has bracing or something over it so it only has small holes to get into tank. I might try a few small bits of drift wood and create a little cave for him.

Got some plants!!!
I dont have much experience with plants. How much lighting should i have? At the moment i have 2 x 3foot lights end to end to make 6foot with the tubes for plant growth on a timer for 8 hours a day, and 2 x 4foot lights on the hood lid with just normal tubes i think that i only really switch on when viewing. Do i need more???
I really want to get more plants aswell.....
What do you think so far?

Wow its made a hell of a difference!
Well soon see how mr coddy reacts  .
You seem to have chosen low light plants which is good.
I think what you have should do for now.
Are they powerglo tubes?

Hi Steve,
Only been on here a few days but it's good to see someone else from Sydney!
Have you tried Majestic Aquariums at Taren Point? He has a few natives on display in there.
