Hi guys! me again eheh

I was wondering if it will be safe to accommodate bristlenose catfish with goldfish... As i have 2 fantail, 1 ranchu, 1 blackmoor! they are growing really nicely than when i bought them! Except ranchu is producing lump on his belly!

Anyways, i heard that bristlenose will suck on the goldfish while they are sleep??? true??

i want to get one bristlenose to clean the goldfish tank glass! and dont know it would be safe to do?

please let me know! thanks!!;)

bristlenose catfish should be fine, its the sucking catfish you need to worry about, they will suck on the side of any fish not fast enough to get away.

should be ok in the goldfish tank as long as you keep the temperature in the goldfish tank around 20 - 26 degrees then they will survive pretty good with the goldfish as they are a tropical fish

At the moment, i dont need heater, as my goldfish tank has fairly stable temp at 24 degree celcius... I got few Crinum Calamistratum, Few Bobiltis Heudolotii, and heaps of Anubias Nana Petite inside, the problem is that goldfish tank seem to get algae every day, what i've been doing is that empty the tank every once a week and scrub them and do 50 percent water change... all the plants are growing in a tub inside or on cemamic rock, so they were distubed much... I will have to get Bristlenose soon... Just didn't have much time to go to LFS...

Where is the tank located?
is it in front of a window?
do you have lights on it?
excess algae is generally caused by too much lighting in the tank

I can safely say that i currently have 5 goldfish (2 comets, blackmoor and 2 ryukins) along with a fresh water mussel (good for filtering) and 2 smallish bristlenose, and like previously mentioned, they aren't even noticed. They have been going strong for the last 2 weeks now, and no problems... The biggest comet is maybe 4-5 inches and the BN's are only about 2...

its that bit that has me worried. 40cm isnt a tank that should house one goldfish let alone a goldfish and a bristlenose. i think the minimum for a goldfish is about 40-50l, and i dont think a 40cm tank gets anywhere near that. as well as the fact that without a heater that bristlenose will be lucky to last through winter if your in a cold place.

Lots of people keep goldfish in small tanks, dependant of how often you clean the tank and do water changes, and where the tank is situated, remember most fish stores don't heat the water they heat the rooms they are in. You must be careful of overstocking , of course
