i want to get my kribs to spawn, they have done it once in my old community tank, then moved to a new and bigger one, and since then havent even looked like spawning. they have showed to each otehr a few times, but nothing ever comes of it.

how can i encourage them to do so??

anyone have any good examples of a tank setup that helps with kribs?

breeding kribs is dead easy. chuck a male and female in a tank. give them somewhere to spawn like a terracotta pot with the entrance half covered, so they are protected. and thats about it. i currently have a pair who breed all the time.

You will deffinately need some sort of cave for them to lay eggs etc.

You could try still using a pot because its easier to provide the safe zone they need, but try covering it with rocks or the like to still maintain your natural look

You could go to your LFS and find a suitable rock which has a natural cave.

mmm, could also cover the pot with fontinalis...

When breeding is inbreeding a problem?Do you get your fish from different placers to advoid this?

i got my pair from different fish stores.

good news. after doing a big water change (around 40%)
they started showing a lot to each other, yoko (the female) had an awesomely coloured belly and wouldnt leave terry (the male) alone.

they had also been pretty much inseparable for the last 2 weeks.
could that be part of the spawning process? hardly leaving each others side for 2 weeks... or is that just normal krib behaviour?

picture is yoko with her eggs

congratulations! now u wont be able to stop them. as for the behaviour it is probably part of the mating process :)

if you get a nice thick layer of gravel and put a half pot in then build up the gravel up over it so its a dug in cave :) they love that!!!
