hey every1, i just purchesed my FIRST fish tank (2 foot) and a murray cod fingleing, he is only about 4cm but going well. I know i will have to upgrade my tank in a while, water is not heated, just room temp. I live on the macquarie river in dubbo, so atm i have access to yabbies and shrip. i am a rookie and looking for as much advice as i can get.

a few questions:
How long will he take to get upto about 10-15cm?

Wat other fish (native) can i put in with him that he isnt going 2 try and eat/fight, or 1 that isnt going 2 eat the cod?

how fuch 2 feed him?

any other informalion will be awesome!

thanks.

p.s. im trying to do everything on the cheap.

i have a redfin in a 2 ft tank and he's about 150mm.
cant put anything in there that moves. including fingers!
i'm insure how much to feed him too. i got him onto pellets though and give him a couple a day now.

doing it on the cheap... i'd get some tiny soft palastic lures and find a lake with redfin in it. that's how i got mine. he adapted very well to tank life and even recognises my son now!! (he feeds him so he prefers my son to me)

i've been told the only thing i can put in with him is a murray cod or a barra ect. so i'd say get a redfin should be fine. and a great tank fish i think.

he'll happily live in a 4x2x2 for a long time. MC growth realllllyyy slows down after 30cm

My MC is happy as in his 4x2x1.5 he's been in there for 10years and is about 55-60cm long, he took about 2 years to get to 20cm and as Cichlid boy said they grow very slowly after 30cm. Also i'd start training him to eat pellets and frozen food sardines/prawns etc as sourcing live food can sometimes be an issue. and if you plan to keep other fish with him get used to losing them i've never found anything compatible in 10 years, my MC even ate the magnetic cleaner from the inside of the tank, took 2 weeks for him to regurgitate it!

My first fish has become a part of my family.Every person in my family tries to keep the fish healthy.they always clean the tank and the fish has also adopted the environment. It seems very happy in the tank.
