Hi everyone!
I'm new to this forum website so forgive me if i have placed this in the wrong spot.
I had a fishtank set up last year with happy fish and everything was dandy. Then, i went away and left the tank in the care of relatives. Upon my return - the fish (4 of them) had either died or were diseased ravaged. I was not happy with the relos at all!
So then i just left the tank sitting there as i was due to go away again and didnt want to take the risk. It sat there for about 3 months.
Recently, i decided to start over. So i emptied the tank and soaked and cleaned all the parts and gravel in about 70 degree water. Changed the biomedia and filter pads etc etc. After letting the biomedia start off and settle i decided to kick the cycling off - added two fish. A few days later they both ended up with a fungal infection (white stuff hanging off the fins and body). I did a water change and it lessened. All water parameters were normal expect the pH was low.
can anyone suggest where i have gone wrong? should i have steralised in boiling water or smth else? something must be wrong for this to be happening. could the low pH be to blame?
Any suggestions or help much appreciated!
