BIG fish wanted

Gday guys,

Thought I would ask here, Ive built a pond/water feature in my backyard its about 6000mm long 550mm deep and 600mm wide. Currently I have a few fish in there, comets, black moors, shubunkins etc They are all reasonably sized.

I usually buy them from Mentone Aquarium, however I got onto the St Kilda Aquarium (they have 35 y.o cat fish on display!) and they have quite large (8 y.o) comets, I was wanting to see if anyone knew of any other aquariums that stock large gold fish, St Kildas are around 150 - 180mm.

Something along the lines of ex breeders etc.

P.S. Would love to have had Koi but Vic sucks....

For those interested, I use a 6500LPH in pond pump with a massive block pre filter, into an out of ground Claritec 5000UVC canister filter, then up to the water fountain. Have a few Lily's and other plants, no issues with algae, been a great pond so far (3months)

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I like to see big fish swimming around.

hey Bigw,

at leverton market on the weekends there is 2 guys that sell some big gold fish for good prices. first guy is outside and he is set up in a trailer, he also has tropicals. the other guy is in side, im going there tomorrow so i will try and get there prices. i remember a few weeks ago there where some gold fish there around 200mm

Thanks mate, St Kilda Aquarium just got some massive fantails in 300mm for $60
Bloody massive, looks good in the pond now.

They rekon at the start of winter he will have some 350mm goldfish

Hey mate, yep.. Laverton market for those big fish. Definitely good value. Although, I did buy my prized possession from a local pet shop. Bought myself a nice 27cm Shubunkin - cost me $60 but worth it.

So depends if you are picky or not. Petshops probably have more nicer looking fish than the markets. I have a descent size pond and all my smaller fish are from markets except for the big Shub.

Here's a pic of my pond from last summer. The pic is taken from inside the house. The surrounding plants are now a lot nicer and big after the winter. And my lilies (not shown have started to bring out a lot of pads). Big fish look lovely in ponds I agree.
