Hey guys,
3 days ago i added 2 silver perch, 7 & 9cm long, into my 240L aquarium with my 7.5cm barra. at first i was minority concerned that the barra would bully the silver perch as i was given to understand barra where territorial, and mean. but now i am concerned for my barramundi, he now only comes out during the day, (when i have my aquarium light on) as the silver perch are hiding during this time. whenever the light is off and the perch are out, they chase him until he buries himself out of sight in the Elodea. also the silver perch seem very stressed, they rapidly open and close their mouths, and their gill movements are much higher than 80 per minute.(just wondering if this is due to introducing them into a new tank, or if it is a sign of bad health, not that it has persisted over the 3 days).

But anyway the main point of me posting this thread was to ask if my barramundi is in any danger, i have grown quite attached to Dr George Neegus (Barramundi's name), and i dont want him to die, so i am willing to pass these silver perch onto a friend of mine if i have to.
alright, well any advice would appreciated. Thnx fellas.
Peace

alrighty, i have removed the 9cm perch. barra has got a frayed tail form nipping, and gill movements have greatly increased, he is clearly stressed. gonna give the Ramseys away to a mate.

Hey
sounds like your doing the right thing mate i too have a perch only 5cm tho and he is a nipper his tank mate is a bass which only recently has taken over dominence of the tank but before that the perch would give the bass a nip every now and again
as for the perch been stressed example they rapidly open and close their mouths, and their gill movements are much higher mine have always been like this too so im not sure if its stress or thats just the way they are:confused:

oh ok, i guess that makes sense. the barra and it seem to be getting along fine now, they mostly just stay out of each others way. although my barra now seems a little frightened of me, still takes pellets from my hands, but used to press its face against the glass and follow me =P. hoping it is just that it is shocked from when i was netting the bigger perch out, and that he will return to normal in a few days.
well anyways, thnx for ur help. i guess ill stop worrying about this stressed looking perch then =P, now my next challenge is converting it to pellets from live feed. should be fun. kk
Peace
