Hi All,
New here, and new to keeping fish for other reasons than bait and dinner.
But anyway here goes.
I want to get a mangrove jack (Lutjanus argentimaculatus) or maybe 2 and keep them in a 1500X750X750 freshwater tank (they get better colours in the fresh) and keep them fed on live food. Live food won't be a problem seeing how I drive over several creeks to and from work everyday, and I throw a pretty mean castnet. I've alos started off a tank with guppies, just for those times when i forget or don't have time to stop and get some mullet
I haven't set the tank up yet, but will the tank I have in mind be large enough to accomodate 2 fish that can get quite large if I have them long enough. Also what sort of water quality would I be looking at? Like PH, hardness and all that jazz.
Also, does anyone know anywhere in Townsville where I can buy one? It's illegal to catch one undersize in the wild and put it in a tank, and I Don't have any spots where I would be able to catch one small enough anyway. i'd like to start them of small, like 50mm long if i can.
Also, are there any pitfalls i should be worried about that is specific to keeping jacks?
Ideally i'd like to keep a jack and a fingermark (Lutjanis Johnii) but I don't think fingermark will survive in freshwater
