I have just established 2 tanks, one cold the other warm (25C). I have been reading that toxic chemicals such as ammonia and nitrates build up very quickly in new tanks due to there being little bacteria.
My questions are: Should I half change the water every few days? and how can I change the tropical tank, tap water is like 15C?

Any help is much appreciated

yep still change it once every week. will take your new tank any where from 14 days to 2 months to cycle and have enough good bacteria.

theres a few things u can do to speed the process up
A. find some one who has a existing cycled tank near you and use tehre water from there water change
B. add a single fish to teh tank no mor ethen 1 and must be a hardy fish gold fish would be fine just dont be shocked if it dies
C. after 3 or 4 days of the tank cycleing normaly after seting up get some 1 else's bio filter and dont clean it out just pop it straight in your tank

A.also straight tap water will be fine if u can have your heater running and just slowly add new water so temp wont drop

B. just add the water to the tank if your heater is the right watage for your size tank it wont take long to warm up and cuase the rest of ya tank is at 25c already and u only chnageing 20% of the 100% = 80% is still at 25c u wont drop the whole tank temp to 18c u will prob drop down to maybe 20 to 21c
