Hi all,

We are setting up our 1000L litre 8ft tank atm, and we have 2 x pvc inlets that go down through the tank into the sump underneath the cabinet.

On one of the inlets, there is a very small leak (about 1 drop every few minutes or so). he leak is inside the actual down pipe, and would be going into the sump anyway. It is NOT outside of the pipe.

My question is this: Should i drain the water again and re silincone the part where the pvc pipe inserts into the coupling? Or is this nothing to be conerned about?

What are members thoughts please?

See attached pics so you can see what I am referring to.

Many thanks.

Nice looking tank!
Cant wait to see it all planted out.
Just a quick question, is it one drip a minute when full, or only 2-3 inches full, as per the pics?
In my opinion, if something is leaking, then fix it... What starts as a tiny drip could lead to more problems in the future. Plus, in the setup stages, it is a hell of a lot easier to fix the problem then 6 months down the track.
But then that is my opinion anyway.
Looking forward to the progress!

Hi Staalion.

Thanks.

There is about 8 inches of water in there atm. Havent filled it past here as yet.

I agree with you about future problems... am just chaffing at the bit right now!

I would also agree with staallion and fix it.
Easier now than if the tank was fully setup later.

the more water you fill the tank with, the larger the amount of water pressure on the leaking pipe so DEFINITELY fix it now in my opinion also

Thanks everyone.

Problem was, I was using silicone to seal it all. My bad.

After googling (why didn't i do that first?), I realised I needed to use plumbers tape on the threaded joins, and pvc cement (and primer) on the couplings.

Presto, no leaks! An what's more, only 24 hours curing instead of 7 days.... weeks wasted!
