Hey all

So I've got a 4ft tank that I've had set up for a while, and recently bought another piece of drift wood for my pleco to hide in. The wood was too big to fit in any sink or bucket that I have so I couldn't soak it in boiling water first and now the water in my tank is all yellow.

I've had this happen before when I had a smaller tank and I bought a bag of Purigen which cleared it up in a day, but doesn't seem to be working in my 4ft tank. I've also just bought a 1500l/hr canister filter with some carbon in it but it hasn't really done anything.

I was wondering what you guys do to keep your water looking crystal clear?

Cheers

Mike

The purigen will do the trick it will just take some time, if the purigen has gone a browny colour it needs recharging follow the instuctions on the box or container. I have a couple of bags of purigen so as one is recharging the other is in the tank and I just swap them around as one gets really brown, keep doing this and your water will become crystal clear. Hope this helps

Thanks guys, will give it a go.
I have recharged the Purigen before but it probably needs doing again.
Might buy a second bag so I can swap them when needed.

I put a massive bit of driftwood in my 6ft. I put it in the bath and filled the water and left it until it was really yellow, drained the water and repeated. I done this over 10 times and 1 month before the wood had no Tannins? to release to make the water yellow. Be careful, uncured driftwood lowers the PH in your tank.

There is a product called magic blue that works awesome, getting rid of the yellow in your tank IMMEDIATELY. Only need about 3 drops...

I use it in some of my tanks, takes away the yellowness.

Expensive, but one bottle lasts forever
