G'day guys,
Total newbie here, had a brain explosion today with my daughter at the local pet store, bought a mini barramundi.. I've put him in a small tank to start 30x20x20cm, the bloke gave me some pellets to feed him, threw in a few plants.. Need some help please, will this tank be suitable for long?? How long should I feed these pellets before chucking in the kittens? Hopefully Barry will be around for a while..
Thanks guys..
Mark..

how big is he now??
I bought mine approx 4 months ago at 4cm and he is now 18cm long!!!
You will need a tank around 4x2x2 soon and that will only last 1.5 yrs then you will need something that is at least 8x3x3 for him to be comfortable in for a long time. I am currenty building a 8x3x3 plywood tank for mine and a saratoga.
And then there is his food bill... Try to keep him mainly on pellets with the occasional live food coz as soon as you start feeding live food constantly he wont want pellets anymore (i found out the hard way)
And you have to keep the water very good for them. They dont like any nitrite reading at all they become very stressed with even the slightest reading..
goodluck with him

Hey,
I agree with the above comments, you WILL need a bigger tank very soon! These things grow so quick But you could try limiting its feeding to only pellets and not very often. They seem to grow much faster when given live foods. I feed mine (its about 30cm) pellets about every second day and not too much and some goldfish every couple of weeks.
I really dont think they should have sold you it considering the size of your tank!!
hope that helps
