Hey guys. I'm new here and this is my first post. I've just recently set up my first freshwater tropical tank and its just about fully stocked. Just had one question about one of my golden barbs - it seams to have a cut on its' 'chin' and i'm not sure if i should just leave it to heal by itself or if i should medicate the fish. I think it may have sliced it self on a rock. It's not a terribly bad cut but I am unsure about wether infection could set in if I left it to its own devices. Any advice would be helpful. Cheers

hi mate, i would just keep an eye on it for a bit, i had silver dollars that hurt themselves from thrashing about and I never added anything, you could add some salt but I'm not sure of the qty so do some research before doing this, as for medications some stress coat would help and wont hurt anything i believe.
hope this helps

Some Melafix definitely wouldn't hurt if you have some lying around. Its good to keep some around for situations like this. If you do use some though just make sure you take any carbon out of your filter/s while you are treating the tank.
