Two things need to be done. Firstly put in one of the more advanced catchpa's to eliminate robots and secondly moderate new users so that all their rubbish merely appears in the pending queue and can be easily & quickly deleted by the mods. It may be a bit quiet around here and the low number of posts makes these spammy mofo's seem even more prevalent than when the board was roaring along.

Next up, how to increase the number of (active) users as this board has a large base, but seems to have gotten rather stale.
