Hey
does anyone know where abouts in Sydney or Oz i would be able to purchase moonlight led lighting?
Or if Jaycar or someone similar do kits or parts so that i could make my own?
AND has anyone currently or previously used led lighting in their tanks?
Cheers

Led lighting for tanks may well become they way of the future.But Its still very much in infancy stage with regards to color temp and intensity.Not sure how many leds you'd need for a whole tank let alone for plants??
The thought of never replacing tubes again sounds good.
But it may be a nice for a moonlight effect.
Could try Jaycar or a lighting specialist store and see what's available

You don't need much for moon lighting, I have 2x white 1w luxeon star leds dialed way down (5% or so) on mine;

light enough for me to see for the nightshift poking around, dark enough to send the rest of the fishies to sleep.
A couple of normal 5mm white led's should be sufficient (I think blue lights are dumb, moonlight is more white than blue)
On the subject of led's for general lighting, I've used the 1W luxeon star's in multiples for a smaller tank, 8 gives pretty good light for a standard 2' tank, good enough for normal (non CO2 injection) plant growth.

Thanks heaps for that,
Im not looking to light the tank itself with LED i was just wanting to use them for moonlights.
Im thinking of making my own though as i cant find anywhere in sydney that sells a complete unit and i dont really want to purchase in $US off the net.
