hi guys, found some photos of the tank before i had a problem, was like this for 2 years.
It's empty now waiting on time and money to set up again.
It's used as a room divider.

Nice clear water there! Next time you set it up, I'd suggest using at least 3 times as much live rock. Acts as a natural filter plus fish love hdiing in it. Did your anenome stay put? They often move around for a while, I've heard of some getting caught in the overflow. What did you feed him?

What sort of troubles did you have with the last tank?

Hi leon, i don't exactly know what happened, but the rock was slowly losing it's color and the corals all died.
Over a period of probably 6 -8 weeks the tank went green and the remaining 3 fish didn't look healthy.
after repeatedly testing the water, the only out of ordinary reading was the calcium a bit low.
the only other thing was that i started getting my water from the ocean down here. I did get it from a pristine area here on the south coast and tested it before putting it into the tank.
The next setup will have more rock yes. The water will be made up and i'll add another canister. The filter is external (outside the house in sump style with bio balls and protien skimmer). Makes it nice and quiet inside the lounge
The coral was pretty unsettled for about 2 months when i first put him in but soon found a location in the tank where he was happy. He would eat the marine green as would the brittle star that was in there.

Yeah I must admit I have been thinking about building a nice "divider" stand and setting up a tank recently.

I may even build the tank myself yet to size for a little project. It would make a good first article for this site I am thinking.

I'm still toying with the idea of building a Discus tank from Plywood too http://www.thefishtank.com.au/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif A nice tall skinny tank. Only downside is getting in to clean the thing.

Sorry for hijacking your thread mitch!

Hey all, its been a while now but the tank is back up and looking good.
I've taken the advice of ...(sorry name eludes me) about the substrate and used crushed granite, seems to be good , the ph is really steady now and the carb hard is really good.

The live rock is in (but only 10kg at the moment) and i have the last 3 of my fish from the last setup in. They all seem happy for now.

My hood/light was damaged while waiting to go back on and i'm just waiting for a couple of pieces to get fixed and its all go again.

I'll eventually get about 30 kg of live rock for the tank so that the filtration isn't an issue. (and fish have a home)

I'll post pics soon but still having issues with my camera , so while the tax time sales are on i might as well bight the bullet and replace it.

I changed the way the filtration works this time to, the canister filter now has its inlet at the far end of the tank in the middle of the gravel. A picture would tell a thousand words!

The mini reef still uses the skimmer type for the feed and the return via vertical spray bar to keep the water moving.

The bublers are also run down one end into the gravel and fixed to the floor to keep the hoses neat.

So if all goes well the light will be on this weekend, more rock next weekend and then its fish time !!

What do you mean by a 'bubbler' as in an air stone?? If so, you don't need to aerate the water like that, best to leave a lid off of the tank as the air and water need to mix that way = alot healthier tank.
