The shrimps are wild caught from the local river (use those collapsable fish traps with some rotten meat/dog bones as bait, these shrimps are meat eating scavengers and don't appear to eat plant matter, aside from the algae disks ) I've used them for years for fishing (top barra/threadfin salmon bait) it was a bit weird at first to keep them as pets.

Be warned they are nocturnal and very good at catching sleeping fish, they are only fish safe if you keep them de-clawed (the shrimp on the branch is de-clawed) they grow the claws back in 3-4 weeks.

There's another, rarer, species of shrimp in the river that I've been trying on and off to catch, they get a lot larger with different claws and head spike and some specimins had quite a bit of blue in them (remembering from when I caught the odd one fishing) I'll post pics if I end up catching any.
