Hi all,

I just stumbled across this site and it looks great.

It's always good to see places like this around to share ideas and help the new folks entering our great and addictive hobby.

I've been in the aquarium hobby and industry for a couple of decades. I've worked in aquarium importers, wholesalers and in retail, I've also been president and on the comities of numerous aquarium clubs.
I've travelled overseas (mostly Asia,China) looking at fish farms and exporters as well as the smaller hobbyists and breeders.

At the moment we have well over 300 tanks not including the 500+ betta tanks and containers.

Looking forward to joining in the discussions.

Cheers

BM

We are an importer, wholesaler.

I work full time (well daytime) in another job and my GF does the fish business full time (a huge amount of hours) as she has to work over multiple time zones, through numerous language barriers and deal with different countries government bureaucracies. She also has to pack and diliver all the orders that come in during the week.
At any time the fax machine can spring to life sending a well planed week into utter chaos.

On top of this we both work / help out on weekends in some of our clients pet shops.

We do however arrange the importing of fish for Australian people from Asia.

These are mostly bought from Aquabid although some people buy from wholesalers, and we will bring their fish in for a fee. The most common fish are Bettas, but we've also brought in Goldfish, discus and angles for people wishing to set up their breeding programmes.

Our specialty is bettas and we do sell and ship them all over Australia, but no we aren't a general retail store.

I did say we were insane didn't I.

Ps. I don't know about the rules here so don't want to infringe on any sponsors etc, so I will not mention our business name until I know its aright to do so.

Hi BM,its good to know where members commercial interests are.

This way if your upfront people will not mistake any suggestions for sale as an unbiased opinion.I hope you understand that when posters are more than just enthusiasts things could get colorful, particularily once there are more people with commercial interests on the forum.
Though I'm sure if you have any information or offers that can passed to members it would be appreciated by them.
Though I'm sure only Marc could give you any true indication of any forum ettiquette that he would like observed.

Yep I think up front is the best policy.
I have some different ideas on why and when people should buy fish over the net. Sometimes people buy things that I think to myself, surely you could have got that cheaper locally, but they are happy to buy from the internet.
On buying over the net. We have also found over the years that most people like to see what they are buying, and will pay more for it if you have a photo of the actual fish that they are wishing to purchase.
