I have a 200 litre tank which I change 1 x 10litre bucket a day of water - I don't use water ager because the amount is so small - its not a big chore like a large water change is & after 6 months of doing this the tank, fish and plants (with appropraite fertislization) has never been better.

I started this when I read that at a 5% water change you don't need water ager - Is this true?

If I use water ager does this not dissipate the plant fertilizer out of the water to the palnts detriment?

If I stood the water in a bucket for 24 hours before the water change would this clean the water of undesirables?

The water ager thread??
Some are advocates, some aren't.
I fall into the later,BUT!!!
I do filter my water first.Standing the water in a bucket or even aerating it will dissipate the clorine /flouride stuff. This dissipates quite quickly.

But for instance I do not age water for 10% changes for my guppies but the discus will only ever get filtered water.
Though I'd say anyone was foolhardy not ageing or treating water for a brand new tank.

I'm with Joz about letting the water aerate. Chlorine will dissolve in around ten minutes if left in a bucket out in the open, this is all i do to age my water. Never worry about the bottle of whatever the hell is in it, and i've never had a problem in 12 year's of fish keeping.

Standing water is enough to get rid of chlorine, but not chloramine and other chemicals. Standing water was fine when chlorine was the only chemical used to treat water but now with the addition of chloramine and other chemicals, more is needed. Personally, I wouldn't risk not using water ager. Just my 2c

I haven't lost a fish in 5 year's and haven't used water ager for all that time my fish are happy :) Maybe the cultured tank water disperses the chemicals used.

Maybe. Or maybe you've just been lucky, who knows? As long as what you're doing works for you and your fish, that's all that matters :)
