Im thinking of getting a butterfly fish but I have an Aqua One tank with a black rim around the top and a complete cover and im worried that i wont be able to see the fish (as they spend all their time up the top). Has anyone else had one of these and does it spend all its time up the top?

They're a neat fish but all they do is sit at the surface and stare off into space, they'll dive after and chase live food but that's about as far from the surface as they'll go.

Thanks for that, anyone have some good mid level swimmers that are bigger than dwarf gouramis but not danios or barbs? Any peaceful coloured chiclid suggestions?

Rainbow fish come to mind, lots of variety to choose from, peaceful, active mid level swimmers.

Would I have to get rid of all other fish and just keep rainbows?

Rainbows aren't aggressive to other fish (that are too big to be eaten, they'll go after fry like most other fish) and are mostly peacefull, some can get pretty large though (8-10cm) so you would have to keep that in mind re-stocking levels, many rainbows are very hardy and can be kept with goldfish up to normal tropicals.

G'day Fin

I used to have my rainbows mixed with south american cichlids, corys and gouramis, no problem at all!!

There's a huge variety of rainbows, so you should be able to find some that are the right size and to your liking.

Good luck,
Cheers
