Just noticed one of my dwarf gouramis is exceptionally fat. Could it be pregnant? Or sick?
Please forgive the ignorance but I'm only new at this.

It seems reasonably content. Swimming and not sideways at all. Assuming it's not sick... How long would it be pregnant for?

OK so it wasn't pregnant cause it was dead when I woke up yesterday morning. I was fairly sure it wasn't pregnant cause it was fat all over. Looked blown up like a balloon. Now it's mate has one eye blown up & popping out of it's head!
All the other fish seem happy and fine.
Any idea what would cause this sort of reaction? Had my water tested at the LFS and they said it's fine.

Sounds a lot like Dropsy.

I'd get your other one out of the tank also!

Sorry to hear of your gourami problem,
On the one that died, were the scales sticking out like a pine cone? If it was it could have been dropsy.
Another though is have you done a water change lately?

Yes they were. Thanks for the info 'betta', I'll look up dropsy and remove the other one today. Cheers.

Here's some more info from someone who had the same thing. Some info on treatment there as well:

Cheers Marc. Definately sounds like this Dropsy.

Will do a couple of water changes over the next few weeks to try and freshen it up and will remove the other one with the eye problem.

I have 2 other types of Gourami's in there so I hope it doesn't travel to them.
