T 5's Anyone?

I was in at the LFS looking for ferts,sorry GG I couldn't find the one I was looking for. :(

But got stuck talking about lighting.
So just wondering if anyone uses T5s or even better the T5 HO (high output) tubes.18000k they are!
I'm seriously considering the new tech which up until now I have been very ignorant about.
Any how the RRP on the 4' T5 HO tubes are about $36ea :ohmy:
So before I venture down this road i thought I'd ask around.
So either way I go it'll cost me about $500 for a pair with twin tubes.

Hi Joz, I'm using the t5 unit but mine aren't that big , only 12000k 21w tubes, I have found them excellent, and mine were just cheapies! Plants are loving it, I did start to fertilize at the same time though so i guess its a combination of both!
I got mine from the Aquarium in St Georges rd Preston, cant remember the name , he was very reasonable priced, I think i paid like $50 for the 3 footer: 2 tubes 1xblue 1x white and $100 for the 5 footer, 2xblue tube and 2xwhite tube, 2 foot tubes.

Hey joz, I'm a bit confused now :wacko: (doesn't take much at the best of times!!).
I went ahead some time ago and bought over the internet a cheapy metal halide lamp fitting (actually not that cheaper, but way below a proper brand name one). This came with two 17000K T8 tubes. They were awful for a planted set up as they gave blue light. The MH bulb was rated at 14000K, if my memory serves me right, and this too was way too blue.

I have since bought 6000K MH bulb and fluo tubes and these are much more acceptabe.

Is a 17000K T colour different to a T8 (25mm diameter) tube?
