Hi every one

I am currently setting up a fish room? almost complete, After talking to a lot of Aquarium shops i decided to go with side drop filter tanks. i have currently got a lp60 air pump to operate the tanks. i have got it hook up to 25ml black plastic garden pipe, which is around the fish room, then i have linked air hose to the pipe then down to the tank which gives me the air to run the side drop filter. tanks a 3 foot buy 2 foot buy 17inch high. but i have encounted a slight problem, i cant get enough current form the filter section so that the water flow goes around and travels up in between the 2 pieces of glass into the filter. How can i fix this problem so that the tank is working. i have tried a couple of things but still not enough current to make it all happen???????????????????
Can anyone help me,

Thanks

Hi Wayne, firstly we need to establish how may tanks with how many airlines going down into each filter. To may and there will not be enough pressure.

Are you using just normal airline from the black poly?,if so good!

Another ideal thing to do is have the 25mm poly go around the room in an actual loop, this will keep air pressure relaively even on all outlets. It works much better than just a straught run terminated at the end.

Are you using airstones on the airlines?Because although they are great if you have lots of pressure, they do put more resistance on the pump and get blocked giving no airflow.

Also the deeper you put the airlines into the water the harder the pump has to work, well actually if you have to many lines the pump will not push the air down deep.

Ok,btw do you have much or any bubbles coming through the PVC pipes from the side drops???
If you have bubbles your side drops ARE working!

Its just that you can't tell with the outlets inder water. If you drop the water level a bit in one tank you should see actual water exiting your pipes with the bubbles,if this is the case all is good.

One more thing, actually two...have yoy got any leaks in your pipes and maybe test the pump just pushing air directly from the poly into a deep bucket..

Good luck :)

Jos
Thanks for the info
At the moment i have onyl 1 of these tanks as i have not brought anymore as i cant get this i to work.there is 2 airlines into each filter.
Yes normally airlines from black pipie.

The black pipe goes all the way around the room into a loop system. Pump is almost at the top of wall them the pipe comes out of the pump up the wall 2 a t piece then pipe goes each way around.

I just put airstones onto airline to see if that would fix the poroblem but it has made the pressure alot less.

THe bubbels coming from the pvc pipe ( the filter pipe ) look to have a lot of pressure, i have droped the water level all looks good. as the reason iam asking this Question is that i droped a small grain of food into the tank and it is still at the bottom of tank, and i thought that it would have been sucked up into the filter.
Thanks
Wayne

Should be Ok then, don't worry about the food not being sucked up.The main thing is that water is circulating through the twin plates of glass.

Though what may happen is if you have not got enough outlets running on your line?
It may cause the pump undue stress, see if you can bleed of excess air just into the room.
I've done this by adding a poly tap to the line, first leave it full open, the slowly close it till your tanks are bubbling.Best not to have to much back pressure on the pump.

I hope thats kind of clear?? :)
