With out mentioning any names, a local radio anouncer a couple of months back on his breakfastfast show said "hey kids if you want to see you parents fish do some silly things, put a little Gin or something in the tank". My daughter 11 thinking of this radio anouncer as some what of an icon of the community did just that and guess what, my fish died, dont know if it would have damaged or contaminated my filers etc. I called the radio station and spoke to the general manager, he said he'd try and sort something out!!!! A few weeks laterI get a message on my mobile from a "current affairs type program, asking if I wanted to take the mater to air!. I know it would have been a major fight, trying to make out I was an irrsponsible part by allowing my daughter access to the Gin in the first place. I worked for Family services fopr near 15 years before being retired, so rather than have a major issue, I dropped it, a few local aquariums have tried to help me out, but the first few fish donated to me or heavily discounts, died, so basically set up the tanks from scratch, things are living now, nearly had one brood of red jewels, but they whetre young parents and the convicts ate all the eggs!

I'm happy to return any favours in computer repairs etc, for aquaria items.

Please PM me with any offers. thanks!

By the way we dont listen to that radio station any more!!!!
Thanks for listening

Regards

Marc

what did you originally have in there?
so sorry to hear your loss.
my sister's boyfriend saw me feeding my barramundi guppies couple months ago
he decided to feed the guppies to my colony of cobalt blues and auratus.
killed nearly all of them.
never forgave him.

I went away for a long weekend and asked my housemates to feed my fish. Came home on the Sunday night and the tank was the colour of milk and my room smelled like a hospital. They had each fed them 3 times a day = 27 feeds of ATP Green over a 3 day period, as well as leaving on the lights/CO2 for 15hrs a day so they could watch them eat. Lost a pair of Leopard Snakeskins and a pair of Blue Diamonds, 4 Pantodons, 2 peppermint cats, 2 royal whiptails, a pair of wild-caught Corydoras Adolphi's and a breeding pair of A. agasizzi's; not to mention over $400 worth of plants. I feel your pain...

Depends what kinda fish you want, but the common ones rarely cost more than $10 each, and usually even less than that. If you can't afford to buy fish that hardly cost anything, maybe it's not a good idea to keep a fish tank. What if your filter dies and you need a new one? Filters cost more than fish.. Or what if there's a damage to your tank and it needs repair or you need a new tank? That would all cost more than a few dollars, and that means if any of those things happen, all your fish will die. If you're gonna keep a fish tank, you need to be prepared for unexpected expenses. Just like if you keep dogs or cats as pets you need to have money saved up for unexpected visits to a vet.
