Hey everyone,
I am currently setting up a new 4x2x2 and 5x2x2, with the idea they will form an L shape in my loungeroom.
At the moment I have the 4x2x2 ready on its stand, spray painted, and ready for substrate and water. Should be started cycling by Thursday hopefully.
The 5x2x2 I have just the bare tank, building a stand for it this weekend, should have it up with water in it and cycling by christmas eve hopefully.
Ive purchase my two FX5's for the tanks (my dream filter). Ive been pretty excited to get this, after more than a year of dreaming about it)
4x2x2 (Planned) Stats -
Filtration:FX5 (noodles, sponges, carbon, coral and zeolite)
Background: Spraypaint black 3 sides
Decoration: White rock & Shells
Substrate: Fine sand (Aquarium Addicts - best sand ive ever come across)
Stock: Community Tang tank (Julies, cuckoos, lelupi, multi's, leptosoma, caudos, fronts etc etc)
5x2x2 (planned) Stats -
Filtration: FX5
Background: Spraypaint black 3 sides
Decoration: White rock
Substrate: Fine sand
Stock: Community Malawi tank (trevassae colony, e/blues, e/yellows, copadichromis boryeli)
I have all the fish already, just in my other tanks (4x18x18's), so this project is so they can spread their fins a little more! Plus their breeding activites have been getting a tad cramped lately, so hopefully this will spur them on a bit more!
I'll be posting pics up on here as it progresses, so stay tuned!

Hi Emma
What a great project, sounds really exiting!!
Increasing the tanks sizes to 2x2, as compared to your existing 18x18's, should make a huge difference as it increases the total water content of the tank by more than 75%! Plenty of room for them to stretch their fins.
Are you making the stand also? From timber? If you have any plans/sketches of it, I'm sure some folks would be interested in this aspect of the project as well!!
Look forward to seeing the pics of the new set up.
Cheers

Well here are the first two pics, one of the bare 5x2 and one of the 4x2 on its stand.
I will be making the stand for the 5x2x2, but the 4x2 came with a stand already. *The 5x2 stand will be made from structural pine. *My husband just recently made an 8foot, two tier stand for my 4x18's with structural pine, so we know it works well! *I will try and put up some sketches or plans for it later today or tomorrow.
I hopefully will ahve the 4x2 filled with substrate and filter running by tonight! Cant wait!!

Looks good so far.
But don't rush it, take a deep breath, relax...that's it.
Can't rush these things ya know.
Don't set yourself unnecessary deadlines, for one thing cycling the tank will take time as well. Good luck!!
Cheers

hey there,
yeah i know, its easy to get excited when setting up new tanks. But dont worry the last thing I plan on doing is rushing it.
I like to get the tank filled and filter going, that way I can give it a few weeks at least to cycle. Once its up and cycling then I can take my time planning the tank decoration, rocks, background etc etc All the fun bit!

Well i havent done much with my tanks over new year, but yesterday i started again on my new 4x2x2, and put the decoration in of white rock. i really want some green in there too, so might see if some plants can go in, not sure on that yet.
IGNORE THE FILTER ON THE FRONT OF THE TANK, IM CYCLING AN FX5 FOR MY 5X2X2.

The 5x2x2 is progressing as well. decided to take out the corner overflow and seal it up, which is now done. Just leaving it for a week to let the silicone really ahve some time to seal, then will start thinking about filling it with water. *
The stand has been built (thanks to my handyman husband) and looks fantastic. *Looks as if it has been built at a shop! He is just going to put on the architrave (spelling??) bit today and it will be all ready to go!

I've had 2 fx5's for over a year, no problems at all. Best canister filter I've used.
