Hey all,
I am planning to sell massive aquarium with everything included (pump, water chiller & warmer etc.) on ebay for a relative as they have no use for it as they have no time to take care of the fish (impulse buy), mind you everything is new. They bought eveything from china so it would require an Australian plug for the pump and stuff but otherwise everything is fine. These are all branded Oceanson.
What is included is-

The tank and drawers-

I find this the best place to post as I'm pretty sure it would get more coverage here compared to actual price check section but if there is any problem please move this thread mods.

PLZ HELP Kenny.

G'day Kenny

That's a hard one to answer, there are so many variables involved. Selling a tank and filter alone say may be much easier to sell, as people may prefer to choose their own stand and decorations and the like. Also selling brands like Eheim or Fluval would be easier as these are premium makes.

Transporting the complete tank may be a problem and this limits your target public to yr local area for pick up only :( .

It may be worthwhile considering selling individual items if your after the maximum return, but obviously this involves more work. .

By looking at some of the other posts there may be interest from other forum members for buying just the chiller?

Anyway, good luck with the sale.

Cheers

Yeh, i was hoping the person who purchases it would do pickup. so i guess is splitting the way to go, i will be seeing them tonight so i can tell them this. How much can i expect to make for each item tank, chiller etc. if that's possible

No worries Kenny.

You know, if I was selling the items, I would do my homework first and look up (and make a note of) the new prices of equivalent items from China on aussie based websites.

Then you would need to establish what a fair percentage of the new price would be, given that the items are not really new any more, there is no warranty provided and no technical support, and you may not be able to transport all the items by post or courier. This is the hard bit, as there are no real rules for this, it just depends on luck largely, if you can find someone who is in the market for the items.

FYI, the “fire sale” value given to mechanical plant when a company goes bust is often only or less than 10% of the book value. This does not mean of course that you would only get 10% of the new prices on the internet, but it does indicate that the price could be less than you hoped for.

Having said the above, set yourself a reasonable target price, maybe add 10% for negotiation purposes (or alternatively be prepared to drop the price, if required) and see how you go. Bear in mind that if someone wants to buy several items they generally expect a better discount.

Well, best of luck and let us know how you go.

Cheers
