Hey there guys! Im Luke, 21 y.o and I live near Highpoint Shopping Centre here in Melbourne.I had made a deal with the misso and I have got myself my first fishtank but the catch is I have to buy her a pool...

Anyways I have bought my tank and I thought I would go for something small. The tank I have is 24x12x12.

I have bought most of the goodies that I need to get a Tropical tank up and running and they are as follows:
- 24x12x12 Tank with Blue coloured gravel
- Clearflow Undergravel Filter measuring 20"x10"
- Jebo Digi-Therm 2010 Heater rated at 100W
- Stellar S.30 Silent Airpump plus Checkvalve
- Aquarium Glass Thermometer
Also the following test kits
- Ph Test Kit
- Hardness Test Kit
- Tropical Water Conditioner
- 100ml Prime
And of course decorations like a Split Ship Wrecked with an Airstone to go under one half and misc. fake plants. I plan to get a light to brighten things up a bit aswell.

I have everything up and running the levels are looking fine so far and the Airpump is working fine. The thermometer is reading 25 degrees so far (Only been on for about an hour) so Im going to wait a few days before I introduce any fish to there new home.

I'd highly recommend If your in Melbourne to visit Coburg Aquarium as they helped me with all my solutions. As for the fish I told my missus that she could choose them so we'll see what Im getting aye?

Well thats me in a nutshell and I cant wait till I have new fishy little freinds in the tank.

G'day Luke
LOL ...I hope the missus' pool is going to be bigger.................
Only joking.. .

Sounds like you're going to have a great set up and excellent that you've built up a good relationship with your LFS, as you said, they can be a great help. Over time, as they get to know you, they will generally bend over backwards to help you, and even if you find sometimes find something a few bucks cheaper elsewhere, it's worth paying a bit more for the support you get from yr LFS.

Let us know how you go with the fish selection, but don't forget to stock up slowly over a period of time, as your new tank needs to cycle and during this time will generate a peak of nitrite that is toxic to fish. You are probably already aware of this, but if not there is plenty of info on the web about this.

Good luck with the tank,
Cheers

Yeah cheers mate! She wants a massive pool like you wouldnt believe....sheesh. Yeah I went to Coburg Aquarium a couple of times before I purchased everything and they were of heaps of help.

I actually signed up about a week ago and I was browsing through the site trying to decipher the abbreviations so Im assuming LFS = Local Fish Store? Coz I know that alot of forums have abbreviations and some members hate it when n00bs as myself post 'Oh what does LFS mean?'

Anyways I will post up pics soon

No worries Luke,
Never be embarrised to ask something, as we are all stumped at one time or another.
Yep, you guessed right, LFS is local fish store, or alternatively if you like, local fish shop.

G'day and welcome Luke, As GG said just make sure you cycle your tank before adding any fish and keep an eye on the water parameters as with the smaller tanks its easy for the water conditions to turn bad on you alot quicker than with the larger tanks.
Good luck and keep us posted mate.

So far I have put two Goldfish in (not shown) as I have been overwhelmed with the arrival of my daughter and all the visitors so far. I shall get more ontop of things in the next fortnight so I will become more active with it all.
Oh btw here is the pool the misso has got

sorry luke i have to ask did ur wife laugh or cry when you told her that was her new swimming pool ...

good luck with your tank i to have a small set up so watch for ur water levels and test them reguarly especially when we have tempreture like we did the other week as you will find that the tempreture in the tank will be prone to fluctuations of tempreture becasue the tank area is smaller and the water looses or gains tempreture quiker.
