hey guys,

im going away on the weekend for two weeks and was wondering what to do for my fish- no one can feed them. I have 2 bolivians, 2 blue rams, a catfish, a bristlenose, clown loaches and a couple of tetras and danios...is it ok just to get one of those holiday block thingos and would that be ok for the whole two weeks....otherwise im considering coming home in the middle week to make sure their ok! any suggestions?

Hi sharky, you should try an auto feeder from the LFS.About $50.
I used one and am happy with the result.
It feeds twice a a day.

Hi sharky

I would agree with joz, I've got an auto feeder just for the holidays and they do work well, but if you decide to buy one...do it now straight away (late night shopping?).

It'll take you a little while to set it up just right so that it doesn't feed too much or too little. Use a sheet of paper (over the glass) under the discharge spout to see how much food it drops and adjust accordingly. It's a slow process but worth doing it.
Happy holidays!!

I bought an auto-feeder that, well, didn't feed my fish at all. I'd be curious to know what brands you guys bought and how you rate them.

If you have the cash for a decent feeder, you should do it. I leave my fish for 2 weeks with no (visible) ill effects.

For 2 weeks they will be fine without food. Just feed them right up until you leave, and they will stay healthy and happy.
