My 2 New Pleco's

Hey guys, im new to this forum and well im actually new to the tropical fish aswell......
Ive always had goldfish since i was little but thought it was time to get something different.
I now have 2 angel fish, 1 silver shark, a bucnh of neon tetra's and i just went and bought myself 2 Pleco's.
My plecos are only small say about 2 inches long. But ive noticed the bigger one will be sittin on the log and then suddenly swim upto the top of the tank really fast as if hes gettin a breath of air and then back down to the spot he was sittin......is this normal???

What you describe is pretty normal for plecos and some other cats aswell.

It is true that plecos and other cats shoot up to the surface from time to time, gulp some air and dive back to the tank floor again and this is generally considered to be normal behaviour for them. But if they do this all the time and at short intervals, it could be a sign of a lack of oxygen in the tank.
Make sure that you have enough water circulation in the tank, and if need be adjust the water return from the filter such that you get a rippling effect at the water surface, or even break the surface, to increase oxygen take up.
If the cats stop shooting up to the surface, or reduce the frequency of doing this, then that was your problem. :rolleyes:
