Ok I actually wasn't even sure where to place this discussion.
Breeding or food???

I'm in the process of growing and hatching brine shrimp.
Yea I know that I can go buy a bag of them or purchase eggs, but???

What I want to find out is how to have a self sufficient brine shrimp set up.

What I mean is I want a tank that will not only hatch breed and multiply.

So if anyone knows what I need to feed these little buggers so that they keep going,I'll appreciate it muchly.

I know they survive on sea monkey food, but whats the alternative?

Brine shrimp will feed on any edible suspended particles in the water, I don't culture brine shrimp but I do culture daphnia and similar small freshwater crustations who feed in the same manner and I feed them a mixture of green water (when I can grow it) artifical green water (finely blended and then filtered aquatic plants and cucumber) and soy milk (soy milk in very small amounts since it can pollute the water if it isn't all eaten quickly)

Liquid fry food is is also very good if you are working with small numbers or want to gut load the shrimp just prior to feeding to the fish.

Looking at some of the commercial brine shrimp foods they use rotifers as an ingredient or are just freeze dried rotifers. These will eat algae and can be cultured for self sufficiency. They could make up your brine shrimp's protein needs as a supplement to the green water. It is a pity you will still have to buy brine shrimp eggs.
