I have just become grandfather to some sailfin molly fry. I put the mothr into one of those in tank breeding boxes and she had the babies in there. I let her go this morning. I find that feeding the fry in this in tank box is difficult and several of them escaped when I went to do it - the will become guppy food I think!

I want to set up an alternative tank and I was wondering if I could use a 40L plastic storage box from the discount shop rather than buy an expensive new tank. I would put in a box filter (does any one have one for a quick sale?) with an air pump thing (also wanted to buy) and a small heater (final thing I want to buy).

If you have any of these items for sale please PM me and I will contact you tonight with details for a buying them off you.

What do people think of using a plastic box for a cheap fry tank? Is is likely the plastic will give off toxic chemicals?

Phil.

How are the fry escaping out of a fry saver?? They will be al u need mate. I made my own fry saver and it's huge, easy to feed fry in.

Some escaped when I got the mother out. My fault. How did you make a fry saver - what did you use? I would prefer to keep them in the main tank for now if I can make something easy to look after them with.

If you want to keep them in the main tank, take out ALL the other fish. I just let my kribs raise the fry themselves and have a 100% success rate.

You will need Selleys silicone, the one for glass. It's safe for tanks. Very fine flywire, ice cream container and styrofoam.

Cut a viewing hole in the side, glue flywire over it from the inside, make sure it's completely sealed. Cut foam so the container will fit into it, so it's like an extended lip around the existing lip, glue it into place. And that's pretty much it mate :) Make sure glue is 100% dry though.
