Hi Scotty, firstly before buying any fish.
Find out about what water chemistry suits each species.
Don't rush the fish, let the tank cycle.

G'day Scotty,
That's good advice from joz. Let your selection of fish dictate what type of equipment and water conditions would best suit your tank, not the other way round.
From your list of fish, select those that have similar water requirements and maybe look for other fish to match these.
There's plenty of info the 'web regarding the preferred water conditions for just about any fish you can come up with, but admittedly it does take a bit of time to research this properly.
The next step is researching the filters, heaters, substrate, and plants if you wish and so on.
Funnily enough, this is quite enjoyable, but also frustrating as so much info is contradictory  .
This is were the forum can (hopefully) come to the rescue and help you out with any specific issues/problems you come across.
