Hi all,
Just a thought as Im learning about natives. I currently have a tank in my office, its only a wee small 30L

It has some very old tetras and a recent single Krib who I dont think is really suited for such a small place. A BN digs around the bottom.
Anyway It was my first ever tank, a present, been with me through 3 office moves.
I was wondering if its next transformation would be to a native type tank.
Any thoughts? Obviously only small critters need apply. Lots to think about and learn but if its a possibility.....
Yes its exposed.. most people see it from the back, it gets lots of attention when someone walks in but thats like 3 times a day at most. So its a very tranquil enviro.

There are not a lot of fish which can go in a 30 litre.. The BN is too big for it. I don't know much about natives, but if it was me I'd prolly go for a betta or a couple killis or some small schooling fish. Or maybe ottos. They are adorable:)
I would suggest having a background put in your tank, as it makes the fish feel safer.

Thats fine lil_fuzzy Ill leave it as it is for while, not much fits in a 30L they shouldnt be sold IMO. Was just thinking out loud if there were natives small enough Id consider it here.
as for the background there is no back to the tank. The fish grew up in this tank as it is 2 years or more ago, not much traffic and when there is traffic they are more likely to check out the visit than scamper off hiding. It was something that played on my mind when I first moved it in here but these fish have never shown signs of stress, just used to it I guess.

There are a few natives that will live happily in that size tank.
You could try a pair of Desert Gobies and some of the smaller Blue eyes such as spotted blue eye's and even threadfin rainbows.

Shouldn't be sold? That's a bit harsh. There's plenty of stuff you can do with 20 or 30 litres, such as keep fry in it, or snails or shrimp, or make a nano tank with small schooling fish in. And there are a few species of fish that don't need more room than that.
I have a 20 litre tank that I currently breed snails in for my loaches, and my mystery snail also lives in it. I'm planning to put a betta in it in the near future, as soon as it looks the way I want it to.

sorry lil_fuzzy. it seems we are not on the same wavelength ;)
I should be more careful on my words.
you are indeed so right and I was less than specific in what I meant.
that tank was my first tank, a present and I have had it for many years and its what got me started. How can I possibly say they shouldnt be sold.:o
Maybe what they (the lfs) should say, is here is your tank but if you put the average fish in it everyone will scream at you cause its too small :lol I reckon some of the LFS would have quite happily sold me Murray Cod for it.:D
I have copped a fair amount of flack over the years for it which is why I was asking if the natives would suit it better.
thanks for the thoughts on what can go in there too. Having learnt many things over the last few years I really do want to get this office tank happy for all who view, hear about it or live in it.

Oh, I guess i misunderstood what you meant then:) Yeah, I agree pet stores would do anything for a sale, and you have to be careful what you put in a tank that size...
