hey there, ive had to "adopt" a mates cold water fish (few goldies, few shubunkins, and 2 blackmores) as his tank dropped leavign him with no place to keep his fish, i slowly addapted them into my 3.5ft tank which only has 15 neons, 2 algae eaters and 2 mollies in it and stays at a temp of around 25-28 degrees now they have been in there for 2weeks now and are loving it.. no problems what so ever, just that they make a fair bit of mess..is this ok for the coldwater fish to be in slightly warmer water?? i was about to get 3bala sharks today but might have to rethink it as they might not be compatable with the current community that i have now recevied.any problems the coldwater fish might face being in warmer water or will they just adapt happily..cheers-Sammy

Goldfish will be happy with the current temps. A lot of the fancy goldfish that are sold here come from Thailand and Malaysia were their temp is around 25-28 degrees all year round.
Just be careful of you tank water being too soft and acidic for the goldfish. Unfortunately goldfish and neon’s both need different water parameters to really thrive but both will be happy with a compromise.

i agree with betta and i would keep the water at the parameters required for the neons not the goldies as the goldies are very hardy fish and it will not affect them as much. how long are you going to have them in the tank. because if it is for a very long time some problems may arrise

Maybe I'm just a little bit old-school, but I never recommend small fish to go with shubunkins, comets, nymphs ect. At warmer temps their metabolism speeds up along with their body temperature, and they require more food - in this case, your neons. There are many conflicting arguments, but I've had too many people come to me with the exact same problem for me to ignore it. I hope it all works out for you.

Couldn't agree anymore. I decided it would be nice to have some head and tail light tetra's in my tank. And it was lovely, for all of a day! Waking up to decapitated fish is never a nice thing.
