Hi All

im new to the forum and to aquariums

I got given two pairs of Bristlenose catfish a while back and 1 pair has decied to breed. I found about 8 eggs and my concern is i also have two adult oscars and a large sailfin pleco which were also given to me,im worried that the oscars might eat the small bristlenose, should i move the brislenose egg nest to another tank ?
cheers AL

Hello and welcome to TFT Al, if the nest is in a cave that you can move I would move it , but you must move the male aswell, his job is to fan the eggs until they are hatched.Of course if you don't have another tank set up and cycled and ready you might just want to leave this batch and see how they go, they will breed again like rabbits once they have started and the conditions are right!

Welcome to TFT! I also have a pair of bristlenose that like wombat said "breed like rabbits". You may have more then 8 as the male bristlenose will gather as many in his mouth as he can if he feels they are threatened, and this will happen if he feels you are too close to his babies standing at the side of the tank.

But if you only have 8, it is likely the other fish have already found them. Oscars find eggs a nice tasty treat, aswell as small fry. And if they get the eggs/fry cornered in a cave they will just keep sucking till they have eaten them all.

I would certainly suggest moving them to another tank, but like wombat said, if you don't already have one cycled, go grab a breeding net from your local pet shop. You can pick them up pretty cheap these days. But if you want to continue breeding them I would definatly suggest setting up a grow out tank that you can transfere the babies in with their dad. Also a breeding cave which allows you to just pick the cave up and transfere them all in one.
