Hows this for conflicting, i have one tank with a Undergravel filter, one tank without, and one tank with a UGfilter ran in reverse! with water going into it instead of air coming out of it!
and to be honest i dont know if any system is better than the other!!!!
how big is the tank you are running the 300lt canister filter on?? is it loaded with fish?

it has the outlet of the canister filter running into it so as to still have the gravel work as a bio filter, yet not get all gummed up with crap, seems to work, i haven't had to clean the gravel since.

IMHO a 300 lt tank i would use a minimum of a 1200 ltph canister filter on it , or as some ppl on the forum like to do , maybe use 2 smaller filters so if one dies you will still have the benifit of one still working, also good when cleaning , you can alternate the canisters you clean helping maintain your bio filter.
