Hey guys. was wondering if anyone has an aquaone EVO 120 (260L) tank. i have just purchased one and have noticed that these tanks have a 10mm gap between the bottom glass panel and the cabinet so nothing is actually supporting the majority of the bottom glass panal except around the edge. so what im wanting to know is if i need to put foam in there or is it toughened glass that doesnt need it as im planning to put rocks in there so there will be a bit of weight.

I don't have one mate , but i would be putting foam on there for sure, that tank will hold about 250kg of water let alone the rocks!

G'day costatoolio, I've previously owned an Aquaone Monach 120 but it didn't have an edge around the top of the Cabinet. It just sat flush on the surface. And I still used foam to keep it as level as possible. The tempered glass was 12mm thick. I had in the past a 90Lt tank which sat in it's stand with virtually no surface to support the bottom of the tank other than it's sides. I never had a problem with this but that was only 90 Lt.. They are beautiful tanks so I personally would place a nice layer of foam under it definately or even consider placing a piece of timber on top of the cabinet to make the surface even with the edging that it's supposed to sit on and then the foam. http://www.thefishtank.com.au/forums/images/icons/icon7.gif

I'd always use the ol polystyrene.
It helps take out any irregular differences in the height of the base, only mm's mind you.
But just one stray grain of gravel under the glass could crack it with the weight of the tank full of water.
The foam absorbs these things, its safer with it.

If you have an aquarium (LFS) in your town it should be no problem.

Just make sure the plystyrene is in between any contact point that the tank makes with the stand.

If you cant get any locally, go down to your local green grocer and get some styrene boxes and cut them up, as long as the thickness is uniform it wont matter that its in pieces.

hey joz. the problem i have with the bottom is that the edge (about 15mm ) around the tank comes into contact with the stand then there is a 5-6mm gap for the rest of the bottom panal if that makes sense. so i think i can only will the gap but the edge will still be in contact (its like a plastic strip that comes off the bottom glass panel. i can take a photo if need be to show u guys.

That black strip u can see around the edge sits about 5mm off the cabinet. ive sent an email through to aquaone and they said there is no need for foam and talked to the guy at the lfs that i bought it from and he said his got one at home and doesnt have foam, what do u think? im bloody paranoid cause i had a tank crack on me before, not a nice feeling.

Just for peace of mind I'd go with foam.A 10 mm one will be plenty and enougfh just to absorb any minor irregularity.
Its cheap insurance..You don't want to be sorry.
